New strategies for energy system integration and hydrogen have been announced by the European Commission. These form key investment pillars in Europe’s Green Deal and the EU’s post COVID recovery plans. Executive Vice President for the Green Deal Frans Timmermans has called these strategies vital and crucial for the EU if it hoped to reach its target of climate neutrality by 2050. Energy system integration views the planning and operating of energy systems as a whole, across multiple energy carriers and infrastructures and taking into account consumption sectors.
